Islam Says Love Your Neighbour

Love thy neighbour is a value that shines forth in all true religion. Indeed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saws) told of how the Angel Gabriel (as) always advised him to treat his neighbors well to the extent that he (saws) thought God may make neighbors inherit each other (this may be found in Bukhari). Another time  one of the blessed companions of  the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saws) asked him what rights he owed his neighbour. The Prophet (saws) answered;

‘If they becomes ill you should visit them

If they die you should bury them.

If they asks to borrow some money from you you should lend it them.

If they get into trouble you should help them.

If they suffers misfortune you should console them.

Avoid building the roof of your house higher than theirs so that you will not prevent their breeze.

If they knows what you have cooked you should give them some too’

(Hayatus-Sahaba)

Some other Qur’anic quotes and sayings from the era of the Last Revelation that and before that teach us to love and be merciful to our neighbours are;

‘And worship God.

Ascribe nothing as partner unto Him.

Show kindness unto parents,

unto near kindred, orphans, the needy,

unto the neighbour (who is of kin),

the neighbour not of kin…’

(Surah an Nisaa, 36)

‘And We sent thee (Oh Muhammad)

only as a Mercy to the Worlds’

(Surah Anbiyaa 107).

‘Abu Hurairah, be abstemious and you will be

the most devout of men.

Be content with what you have

and you will be one of the most thankful to God.

Desire for others what you desire for yourself and you will be a man of faith.

Be good to your neighbour

and you will be a true Muslim’

‘Anyone who believes in God and the Last Day should not harm his neighbour,

and anyone who believes in God and the Last Day should look after his guests generously

and anybody who believes in God and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet.
